This rug is most likely undyed mohair. Handmade from the region of Turkey around Ankara. Belonged to my Turkish sister in law. When my brother died 6 years ago she returned to Kayseri. I am looking to sell it.
Approx 5x7
Hello, this item is an antique Turkish Tulu rug, approximately 5 by 7 feet, handmade from undyed mohair as described. Tulu rugs are a traditional type of Anatolian weaving, typically produced in central Turkey, especially in regions such as Konya, Karapinar, and Kayseri. Their defining characteristics include a thick, long pile created for insulation against cold weather, and minimalist geometric patterns, often rendered in natural, undyed wool or mohair in neutral tones like cream or ivory.
In today’s market, antique Tulu rugs have gained popularity for their organic, minimalist aesthetic that fits modern interior trends. Values depend on age, condition, and wool quality. For an example like this, showing even pile, natural wear, and no major visible damage, current market values generally range between $1,500 and $3,500 USD.
