Solid wood, carved back, and sides, good condition.(not rickety al all.)
Hi Lynne,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a Continental Art Nouveau inspired carved walnut rocking armchair that could have been made at any time from the late 19th Century to the middle of the 20th Century, though based on the condition, I would say this probably dates to the 1920s or 30s.
Unfortunately, the market for rocking armchairs is pretty soft at the moment with most going for between CAD$100 and $200, though if you're thinking of selling this, you might ask CAD$250 and see if you get any takers.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Continental Art Nouveau style carved walnut rocking armchair
unattributed maker, circa 1920s-30s
The pierced arched crest with relief carving over shaped open arms over a serpentine needlepoint covered seat with serpentine front rail, all raised on serpentine legs on rockers. Presumably unmarked.
