antonio stradivari Violin, Included 2 pegs and chin rest
Hi M S,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Violin (and viola/cello etc) labels are notoriously unreliable (see this link for a good explanation of why I'm saying that: https://stringsmagazine.com/an-insiders-guide-to-violin-labels/) but labels reading "antonius stradivarius cremonensis faciebat" were frequently put on later copies rather than on ones made by Stradivarius. These come up from time to time and ones in good condition usually bring about $300; with yours lacking so many different parts, it's value is $100-150.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique Stradivarius style full-sized violin
probably early 20th Century
Inside bearing a label reading "antonius stradivarius cremonensis faciebat anno 17" with a emblem. Back of the scroll branded "Conservatory Violin." Accompanied by two pegs, a chin rest and a fitted lined case.
24 inches overall length; width 9 inches
CONDITION: Lacking bow, bridge and strings.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 100-150*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
