Appraisal Request – Unique Carved Bone & Nephrite Jade Pendant Signed EXOAL
21 July 2025
Description

Dear Mearto Team, I would like to request an appraisal for a vintage or possibly antique pendant that appears to be both unique and hand-crafted. Description: – The piece features a carved figure (possibly Buddha or tribal icon) made of natural bone. – On the opposite side, there is a smooth polished green stone that shows strong translucency and light banding under a flashlight. Based on its behavior under light, I suspect it to be nephrite jade. – The frame appears to be brass. – The pendant is signed “EXOAL”, which I understand is a Dutch jewelry design brand. After extensive searching online (Etsy, eBay, 1stDibs, and auction databases), I could not find any identical or similar piece, which may indicate rarity or limited production. I have attached several photos, including one with the flashlight showing the translucent structure of the stone. I am interested in knowing the estimated market value of this item and whether it may be of interest to collectors or suitable for auction. Thank you in advance.

What does this mean?

Hello, this item is a double-sided pendant featuring a carved bone figure—likely a stylized Buddha or fertility symbol—on one face, and a translucent green stone on the reverse, attributed to nephrite jade. The setting is brass, and the piece is signed “EXOAL,” a boutique Dutch jewelry brand known for artisanal, limited-run productions that blend ethnic motifs and natural materials. The level of hand-finishing and the choice of materials suggest this is a studio-crafted work rather than mass-produced, possibly from the early 2000s based on EXOAL’s known active periods.

While not antique, the combination of hand-carved organic bone, nephrite jade, and collectible signature makes this pendant appealing to collectors of tribal-inspired contemporary design. Because EXOAL pieces are not frequently resold on the secondary market and this example appears to be rare or custom, it carries additional appeal as a wearable curiosity. The estimated market value for this pendant is in the range of $250 to $450 USD, depending on venue.

Hello, thank you for the review, but I have an addition to the weight of the piece, 26.8 grams. Could this affect the price and review, and increase its price? I hope you can help me in this regard. Thank you.
