What does this mean?

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please tell me what the height and width are? These Arnaldo Maas window panels do vary a bit by size so that's a critical piece of information before I can evaluate this for you.

Thanks!
Delia

Sorry! I thought that I’d included those. It’s 18” wide and 16” high, not including the frame.

Thanks, Lisa!
I can't quite make out the date in the photo but to me it looks like 1979, which is right in the range when Maas was making these windows. If that's not the correct date please let me know and I'll amend the appraisal.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

Arnaldo Maas (Puerto Rico, 20th century)
"David and Goliath", dated 1979
stained glass and lead mullions, in a wooden frame
16 inches high, 18 inches wide
signed lower right
$500-800*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.

Thank you, Delia! Yes, it does say “1979,” although it’s hard to read, even in person. Were you able to find any comps? If so, could you provide them, please? Also, how would I go about consigning the piece?
Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
None of his windows have sold at auction in the past so I looked at what people are asking as a retail price and what other windows by contemporary glass artisans are bringing to arrive at my estimate. Until an artist's works sell at auction, it's a bit of an educated guess and we do err on the side of caution and are conservative in our valuations. We work with lots of auctioneers from relevant and highly qualified auction houses. Your item is in our database of leads and interested auctioneers will reach out to you directly on your email if they can help you sell your item.
If you said "yes" or "maybe" when we asked if your item was for sale auctioneers are now able to contact you. If you said "no" go to your item page and change that to "yes".
