What does this mean?

Dear Shirley,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be an etching print on paper with the measurements of approx. 33" x 37". The print depicts a portrait of General Grant and was made by the portrait painter and engraver William Edgar MARSHALL (1837-1906). This print is hand-signed by the artist with a pencil and belongs to the artist's proof. This means these are the first prints with the printing plate.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 250 to 500 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg
