What does this mean?

Dear Jonathan,

What you have here is a pottery vase made in japan around 1910. It is called Satsuma pottery based on the old name of the era were it was made ( Hyūga on the isle Kyūshū ). Vase is made into a lamp base by drilling a hole in it. That influences the value by say 20 / 30%. The vase is hand painted and that is done nicely. The really fine painted pieces ( sometimes with one hair brush ) can be very expensive. This export vase is of fair quality and will make around the estimate I gave above.
