I had a junk hauling business for 3 years and have acquired a lot of interesting pieces . This one is from an exhibit held in NYC at the Taft hotel in 1971 and featured many European Contemporary Painters . I cannot find anything on this exhibit - I know the hotel closed in 1973. I found similar art online with similar frame. Can you help me identify more about this work ? Thank you ! The back has a piece of paper showing this art was part of the exhibit and reads Cette œuvre a participé à la " 3rd EXHIBITION CONTEMPORARY EUROPEAN PAINTERS IN U.S.A." au JAFT HOTEL à NEW-YORK, du 23 Juin au 2 Juillet 1971, Réalisation du CENTRE INTERNATIONAL DE DIFFUSION ARTISTIQUE, NICE.

Hi Christopher,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I've checked that signature against several 20th Century artist databases we have access to and am not coming up with a match. The name above "Au Champ de Cours" on the back is illegible but I can make out B.R. H-- Roussel 18 below it. Unfortunately, nothing is drawing anything but blanks, as does a search of our archives for the 1971 exhibition at the Taft Hotel. I can see clear influences to Raoul Dufy but am quite certain this is not by him.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
French School, second half 20th Century
"Au Champ de Cours"
oil or acrylic on canvas
Upper left corner of the back inscribed "M--Raoui / "Au champ de Cours" / B.R. H-- Roussel 18"
Medial stretcher bar bears a printed label that reads "Cette œuvre a participé à la " 3rd EXHIBITION CONTEMPORARY EUROPEAN PAINTERS IN U.S.A." au JAFT HOTEL à NEW-YORK, du 23 Juin au 2 Juillet 1971, Réalisation du CENTRE INTERNATIONAL DE DIFFUSION ARTISTIQUE, NICE."
Signed somewhat indistinctly below "Elisa--th"
20 by 16 inches
CONDITION: This painting appears to be in generally good condition
PROVENANCE: Possibly exhibited at the Taft Hotel (NYC) in 1971; discovered hauling junk.
$800-1,200*

I submitted more . I think it was done in 1890s or early 1900s . It looks like it was part of an exhibit but I cannot find anything about it
Is it possible for you to take a detail photo of the signature and add it to this? I should be able to identify the artist from that (it won't let me enlarge the signature sufficiently).
Thanks,
Delia
I just added it . It looks like the name was signed over or redone when you look closely . It seems like it could be faded ?
I thought I submitted many pictures let me send more .
