Hi there, I purchased a box full of items from a auction for 3.00 , this Teddy Bear was in the box. I have done just alittle research and do believe it has mohair, also believe it has saw dust and possible feathers as the stuffing. The arms, legs and head move, no markings. There is no hump on his back and there is a round mettel object in his belly, maybe has a growel mechanism inside? He is approximately 20 inches long. Im hoping you can tell me more about it :)
I purchased this from a on line auction. Was in a box with other items that I paid 3.00 for. I did not know the owner.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a charming teddy bear. Such vintage soft toys are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The teddy bear appears to have had a good life and been told many secrets. From your description of the filling and the round metal box in the stomach I would say that the teddy bears is from the 1940s-1950s. The style of the teddy with the fairly short limbs and the large head indicates this too. It appears to have been sewn on the back or perhaps restored in some way. The eyes are missing and the golden mohair fur has been worn on some areas, this decreases the value. Unfortunately I am not able to identify the maker of the teddy bear from the photos. But I believe that it is an american teddy bears made in the 1940s-1950s.
The selling price of soft toys like this is very dependent on the condition and in this case the teddy may have had too good a life in order to obtain a very high selling price.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online soft toys auction, where I believe the teddy bear has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the charming teddy bear. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
