Hi Tiffany,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The "Calicot" technique - in Italian "tecnica a strappo," meaning "tearing off") is a centuries-old procedure—often recognized since the 17th century—used to carefully remove a fresco from its original wall support.
The market for modern fresco panels is pretty soft at the moment, and I couldn’t find any information on a modern Italian fresco company named "Babilonia Arte." The only mention of something similar comes from an auction listing referencing "STUDIO BABILONIA ARTE," describing a hand-painted fresco depicting a Vestal Virgin; was similarly sized and sold for about $450; your panel is nicer.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Babilonia Arte mural fresco
mid/late 20th Century
Made a la Calicot, on plaster and removed from the wall via a previously glued linen.
Depicting a sumptuous still life of fruit in a basket and footed compote on a pedestal, encircled with an oval frame with C-scrolls and flourishes. Labeled to the verso.
90 by 130 cm (35-1/2 by 51-1/8 inches)
CONDITION: Some minor losses.
