Hello Mark,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Made Bokhara Style Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1930 to 1950. The piece has a Bokhara outline but not a classical Bokhara pattern. The piece has more Armenian influences on it about the colours and the floral motifs. The piece is not centrally decorated but instead decorated by continuous columns of floral motifs. The borders were decorated with ram horn and hook motifs. Ram Horns are representing fertility and power while the hook motif represents the unbreakable bounds and connection. Caucasian influences are visible motifwise as suggested. The piece appears to be painted by natural dyes due to visible unstability in colour distribution. The floral motifs are connected with Herati like patterns underneath the decoration. The piece's central area is decorated on a pale red-pink toned base while the borders were decorated on a dark blue and orange base with stripes. The piece is knotted wool on wool. The piece's knot density is average as usual to the period and type. The piece was purchased from Nazarian Bros Inc. in 1973. The piece is in fair condition with ware and fringe loss to various areas.
Entirely hand knotted.
