1997 Barbie holiday special edition . In original box. Crack on plastic box.
Hi Jeannine,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is the 1997 Happy Holidays Barbie, which is part of Mattel’s long-running Happy Holidays series that ran from 1988 through 1998. All prior Happy Holidays Barbies (1988–1993) were blonde. The 1997 edition marked the first time Mattel released her with dark brown hair, which made her stand out to collectors.
The doll is dressed in a dramatic red and gold ball gown with multiple layers of lace and glittering accents, and a matching crown and jewelry. The opulent style is part of what makes the 1997 version a fan favorite. The box has a curved front and gold trim with a festive background, designed so collectors could display her without removing her from the box.
Mattel did not number or strictly limit production, and these dolls were mass-produced in the hundreds of thousands. Because of this, while collectible, they are not rare, though mint-in-box condition (especially with an undented box) helps value.
Other New In Box (NIB) Happy Holidays Barbies can be acquired online for about $60 but at auction, they rarely exceed prices between $25 and $35.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
