My friend was a visiting team clubhouse attendant at DC Stadium the summer of 1969 and thus worked the NL clubhouse during the All Star Game that year. He gave me a ball signed by the following 31 people: Hank Aaron & Willie Mays (on one sweet spot), Leo Durocher & Red Schoendienst (opposite sweet spot) panel 1: Matty Alou, Ernie Banks, Bob Gibson, Dave Ricketts (bullpen catcher), Bill Singer, Dennis Menke & Dave Bristol panel 2: Steve Carlton, Pete Rose, Tom Seaver, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Jerry Kooseman & Ron Santo panel 3: Lee May, Gil Hodges, Larry Dierker, Phil Niekro, Chris Cannizzaro, Don Kessinger & Rusty Staub panel 4: Mike Ryan (2nd bullpen catcher),Grant Jackson, Felix Milan, Roberto Clemente, Randy Hundley & Juan Marichal. Only MISSING players are Willie McCovey & Cleon Jones
I have been only owner
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Based on the photographs and description provided, the subject of the appraisal is a baseball signed by players comprising the 1969 National League All Star Team. The ball itself is an unmarked baseball, and the ball shows some soiling and staining, possibly from storage issues. Signatures are slightly worn, presumably from handling over the years.
Signatures on the baseball include: Hank Aaron & Willie Mays (on one sweet spot), Leo Durocher & Red Schoendienst (opposite sweet spot); Panel 1: Matty Alou, Ernie Banks, Bob Gibson, Dave Ricketts, Bill Singer, Dennis Menke & Dave Bristol; Panel 2: Steve Carlton, Pete Rose, Tom Seaver, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Jerry Koosman & Ron Santo; Panel 3: Lee May, Gil Hodges, Larry Dierker, Phil Niekro, Chris Cannizzaro, Don Kessinger & Rusty Staub; Panel 4: Mike Ryan, Grant Jackson, Felix Milan, Roberto Clemente, Randy Hundley & Juan Marichal. Missing signatures are noted as Willie McCovey & Cleon Jones.
Two of the signatures are clearly clubhouse signatures: Aaron and Mays. For a fantastic summary of clubhouse signatures, see https://www.psacard.com/services/baseballgradingguide.
The two standout signatures on the piece are those of Roberto Clemente and Gil Hodges, as they both passed away before the sports memorabilia market for autographs heated up.
Similar pieces from this 1969 NL team have sold at auction within the past decade. Based on current market values of the individual signatures (factoring in Aaron and Mays' clubhouse signatures) and considering similar balls that have sold at auction, a pre-auction estimate of its Fair Market Value would be $1,500 to $2,000.
