1.5" wide Blade, 34" long straight steel blade. No visible makers markings
It was part of my fathers antique sword collection purchased in the UK
Dear Fenella,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a typical Scottish broadsword with a hilted basket how it was typical for Scottish troops in British service since the 18th century. This sword has no maker marks or proves marks to identify and date this piece. It was probably made in the 18th or 19th century by an unknown swordsmith.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 400 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
