1.25" wide blade, 29" curved steel blade. Handle is steel that looks like leather
This was part of my father antique sword collection purchased in the UK
Dear Fenella,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a sword probably made in the 19th century. The blade shows an remarkable curvature which was inspired by Persian blades or sword of the typus Shamshir. Such weapons came in contact with the European forces and military since the expansion of The Ottoman Empire. This piece was not hallmarked or any proof marks for a closer localization.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 200 to 400 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
