Excellent condition
33.25 x 1.5 inches
Hi James,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a hand-woven seed bead belt or necklace, possibly an authentic Konyak Naga woman's ceremonial belt. It features a plaid-like pattern with turquoise, black, orange-red, and cream-colored seed beads.
The item appears to be unfinished or vintage, with some wear visible at the ends. It has a flexible, fabric-like quality, typical of off-loom beadwork.
The detailed craftsmanship suggests a traditional or artisanal origin, such as those made by the Naga tribes known for their exquisite weaving.
In an auction with other Native American objects and works of art, other belts usually sell for between $250-350, regardless of tribe; ones that have unusual provenance can bring more, from time to time.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage Native American woman's ceremonial beadwork belt
Possibly from the Konyak Naga, early-mid 20th Century
33-1/4 inches overall length
CONDITION: With some minor flaws, commensurate to age and use.
