Very ornate bronze-colored metalwork with rows of blue beaded material. Interior is a crepe-like material, no sign of wear. The only sign of wear that I can see is where the beaded body of material attaches to the metal, where I can see a few broken threads on one side. The purse is 5 inches wide at the top, 6 1/2 inches long, and the top will open 5 1/4 inches wide, with a very positive "snap" to the catch on top. The linked chain looks like brass or bronze and stands 5 inches above the purse, and has no sign of wear. Came from my family, in very good condition, age unknown.
Owned by my grandmother, born in 1880's.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful beaded purse. Such vintage accessories are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
It is an absolute lovely charming little purse. It is quite a lot of work and effort that has been put into this lovely purse. And then it appears to have been used only very little which is a shame in some sense but good pricewise today.
The metal work could be pewter but it is hard to determine from the photos. The design on the metal work is typical of the late 1800s and early 1900s when the preferred style was Art Nouveau. It is difficult to say where it was made as this type of purse was popular worldwide at the time.
Unfortunately there is not much use for this type of accessories today which is reflected in the selling price.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online vintage accessories auction, where I believe the purse has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the beautiful beaded purse. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
