Hello, this item is a beautifully hand-painted and carved Asian-style vintage room divider, composed of seven hinged panels with elaborate scenes and inscriptions. The artwork, rendered in gold on a red and black ground, likely depicts narrative or courtly scenes in a style that draws from Chinese decorative traditions, possibly from the mid to late 20th century. The reverse panels feature floral and avian motifs with accompanying Chinese characters, which appear to be poetic verses or proverbs. While the frame is likely hardwood—possibly mahogany as suggested—the exact type cannot be confirmed from images alone.
This type of folding screen, sometimes called a pingfeng, became especially popular in Western interior design from the 1950s onward. While it evokes classical Chinese aesthetics, its execution suggests it was made for export or decorative purposes rather than temple or scholarly use. The seven-panel format adds rarity and visual impact, increasing its appeal. In current market conditions, its fair market value lies between $800 and $1,500 USD.
Hello I am planning to sell this and I know due to its specific collector I may need a creative place to list other than my website.
