What does this mean?

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal and the additional images. This is a bit of puzzle. The form of this ladle is not very typical for the Northwest. I think we both agree that this is meant to represent a beaver, which in turn would rule out african carvings, it is not asian, not finnish, nor russian. The depth of the laddle reminds me of the russian kovsh. The central ornament on the beaver´s back could be associated with Tlingit / Łingít carvings. So it might be Tlingit with some russian influence from across the sea. 20th century carvings sell for modest prices, within the price range listed above.
