it is a large pink sculpted pattern , possibly Aubusson style wool rug. I think it has a hand tied fringe. It is very heavy and thick, in great condition with no stains that I could find. my dad passed away and it was nicely rolled up in his basement, he said it was expensive back when his employer person gave it to him, probably in the late 90's
12 x 18 ft
Hello, this item is a large Chinese hand-tufted or hand-carved wool room-size rug, dating to the late 20th century, circa 1980s to 1990s. The design follows a Chinese Aubusson-inspired decorative style, combining a pink field, central floral medallion, scrolling acanthus-like ornament, pastel floral sprays, and a wide border with Western neoclassical influence. Rugs of this type were widely produced in China for the export and interior design market, often in thick wool pile with sculpted relief details to create a dimensional floral effect. The 12 x 18 ft scale makes it a substantial furnishing piece, but its market position is decorative rather than antique or high-collecting, since it belongs to a commercially produced late 20th-century category rather than an earlier imperial, Art Deco, or workshop-attributed Chinese carpet tradition.
The rug shows a presentable overall condition in the images, with visible pile depth, intact fringe, and no major staining or structural losses evident from the photographs. The soft pink palette, floral medallion design, and very large size may appeal to buyers furnishing traditional interiors, sunrooms, or formal living spaces, though demand for oversized pastel Chinese decorative rugs is selective and often limited by shipping, cleaning, and placement costs. Comparable late 20th-century Chinese sculpted wool rugs of this size usually sell below original retail cost in the secondary market, especially when sold locally rather than through a specialist rug dealer. Fair Market Value: $600 - $1,200 USD.
