The material is a woodblock. The dimensions are 13 inches x 9.5 inches.
This item belonged to my aunt who lived in Japan during the 50s-70s. My Uncle asked me to get it appraised because my aunt said the painting is over 100 years old and was made by a well known artist.
Hello again Lindsey,
This item appears to be a carved and painted wood panel depicting pheasants. The word appears to be Japanese. However, I could not decipher the seal, it appears to read で久い手, which does not seem to make sense. However, I can tell you the work dates to the mid 20th century. These lacquered wood panels were very popular as exports and trade items during the 1940 - 1970s.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of comparable Japanese lacquerware paintings. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
