Brass and steel with engravings, 35 “ long
Unknown
Dear Milan,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the apprisal.
The presented object appears to be a U.S. Model 1872 officers cavalry saber with a total length of 35 inches. This sword comes with a scabbard and has a ray skin and wire-wrapped grip. The blade has an etched decor and the maker mark on the ricasso is not clearly readable. This could be "L. Rachut Philadelphia Pa.". The etched blade and the ray skin indicate that this is a sword for a higher military rank.
This piece is in medium to good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 300 to 500 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
