Scottish Broad sword with wooden handle, 2.5" wide blade, 33.25" long steel blade. No visible makers markings
This was part of my father's antique sword collection purchased in the UK
Dear Fenella,
Thank you for the additional images and my sincere apologies for the delay with the apprisal.
The presented object appears to be a two-handed broad sword with the measurements of 33.25" length. This is a typical Scottish Claymore sword and was probably made in the 16th or 17th centuries.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 2.000 to 6.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hi Georg,
Here are some additional photos of the blade. I hope this helps in your appraisal. My mother says that the blade lost about 6" at some point in time if that helps.
Thanks,
Fenella
