Hi Sonja,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Given it's fairly small size, this might be a door stop or book end. It's made of bronze that's been cold-painted (paint is applied to the surface of a bronze object without being fired afterward), a feature of European - particularly Viennese - bronzes in the late 19th and early 20th Century. They were usually cast in matching pairs.
I've not found another exact one to be able to identify the maker but other similar examples have sold at auction for fair market (akin to wholesale) values ranging from $75-125 for singles and $150-250 for pairs.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique late Victorian cold painted bronze fox-form bookend or doorstop
unattributed maker, French, circa 1879
A fox next to a fence with a large sunflower, marked PARIS 1879 on the reverse.
Height: 5 inches; width: 6 inches; depth: 2-1/2 inches
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$75-125*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
