Buddha Statute
13 January 2025
Description

Buddha statute in excellent condition. The statute originated from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Family, who gave it to Roger Bouvier Reimes ( Who's family owned a large furniture factory in Mexico ). Larry Gene Mcgee was Rogers significant other. Upon passing away Roger left statute to Larry Mcgee ( New Orleans, Louisiana ). Then Larry Mcgee passed away leaving statute to his brother David Mcgee of New Orleans Louisiana. Prior to David Mcgee passing away in 2024, the statute was given to me ( Terry Horton ). It appears to be hand made of premium absolute black granite on a teak wood base. It weighs 54 pounds. It is gold and black with brown base. I have done nothing to statute. I have not even cleaned it in any way. So there is a slight bit of dust on it. I don't see or can't find the person's name who made it.

What does this mean?

Hello,

This Buddha statue is crafted with high-quality materials, featuring a composition of absolute black granite with gold and black detailing, set on a teak wood base. The piece measures approximately 19.5 inches in height (including the base) and weighs 54 pounds, emphasizing its substantial craftsmanship. The design reflects traditional Asian art influences, with intricate details on the headdress and serene facial features, embodying a meditative and spiritual essence. The materials and craftsmanship suggest it was intended as a decorative or spiritual object, potentially for a private collector or shrine.

The provenance provided traces the statue’s origins to the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis family, later passing through several owners with notable connections, including Roger Bouvier Reimes and his family, who owned a furniture factory in Mexico. Such a detailed provenance, linking the item to prominent historical figures, enhances its collectible value. However, without artist attribution or specific dating, it remains categorized as a high-quality decorative piece rather than a museum-grade artifact.
