Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a continental european painting, possibly from the Netherlands or Belgium. The painting depicts a watermill in an open landscape with a sunset in the distance, signed with monogram "JGS". Production date would be last quarter 19th century, the frame ist most likely much younger. Such paintings were produced for home decor and usually sold together with furniture. During the 1870s more and more workers were able to afford living room furniture and even decorative art. The estimate is based on similar decorative paintings by lesser known artists sold at auction. It will not be possible to identify the painter, the artist is not listed.
