Cachard was born in France and a member of the French aristocracy. He became the youngest student, at age 14, to attend the art school, Ecole Boulle. In the 1960's he maintained studios in New York, Los Angeles, Venice, London, St Tropez and Normandy, though Venice was his favorite area to capture on canvas.
