Hi Kathleen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Makers' names are expected; not to see them will limit their interest in the market; most unattributed ones of similar size and vintage (late 19th Century) usually sell at auction between $150 and $250.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique French brass Corniche (carriage clock)

Overall height: 7 inches; width: 3-5/8 inches; depth: 3-1/4 inches

PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 150-250*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

We found this mark on the inside of the Carriage Clock and uploaded an image of it. We were wondering if you think it tells us anything about the maker, or model of the clock.
Thank you!
Hi Kathleen - are you able to take a photo from slightly farther back so I can see where you discovered this mark, and have a frame of reference for it?
Thanks,
Delia
Okay, we uploaded a few more images of the interesting mark, as well as a few more of other marks and engravings.
We appreciate all the help.
Thank you!
Hi Kathleen,
It's probably a foundry mark but I can't find it in any of my clockmaker's books (and an online search is also turning up without a match) so I'm inclined to think this is for a foundry with a limited production. Not knowing the identity doesn't diminish or increase the value of this clock.
Thanks,
Delia
The only inscriptions are the labels for winding the "Alarm", setting the "Hands", "Set Alarm" and "S" and "F" for adjusting the time accuracy. There are a couple of things that, in the photos, look like scratches that are just dust. I found a stamped mark on the door that does not show in the photos. 84 is stamped on the door, which matches the 84 stamp on the floor as viewed through the side glass. The other picture with the door open is to show the nick on the glass. Thanks
