Hello Jay,
Thank you for sending in this chronograph wristwatch made by Cartier to mearto.com for an appraisal.
TITLE:
Gent’s, water resistant (100 m), stainless steel, quartz wristwatch with round button chronograph, three registers, date and a stainless steel Cartier link bracelet with double deployant clasp, “Must 21 Chronoscaph” model, ref. 2424, MPN: W10172T2, case number ?, made by Cartier, Geneva, Switzerland, circa 2000-2010. Accompanied by a fitted jewelers box.
PROVENANCE:
Bought from a dealer when the manufacturer’s suggested retail price was $4200. “Please note that prices have declined considerably since you purchased this watch”
DESCRIPTION:
Case: 38mm three leaf, polished and brushed stainless steel, tonneau shaped watch case with wide round graduated bezel engraved with radial Roman numerals, two round polished steel chronograph pushers, fluted and screw down cabochon sapphire-set winding crown, round steel back cover secured with 8 screws on steel pseudopod type feet extending from the center round cover, sapphire crystal with cyclops lens. The back cover has markings (not shown in these photos). They should include “Cartier Chronoscaph” in the center of the cover, while around the periphery one should fin engraved, “2424, water resistant 100 meters, Swiss, Stainless steel”, and the watch case number usually ending in a PL (not seen). The watch is integrated with a three link wide polished stainless steel link bracelet with skeletonized folding clasp marked Cartier and Swiss made. The concave lugs are screwed into the sides of the case barrel with four screws, two per side.
Dial: Anthracite round dial with luminous triangular (@12) and boat shaped hour indices, open bar outer minute/seconds track with Arabic markers placed at every 5-minute/seconds interval, white circular guilloche subsidiary dials for continuous seconds @6, the 30-minute register @10 and the 10-hour register @2, with the aperture for the date at 4. There are Luminous steel epée (sword) hands, and a luminous round tipped counterbalanced center seconds pointer. The dial read, “Cartier” at the top and “L-Swiss Made-L” (L=Luminova the luminous material that replaced Tritium).
Movement: Not shown but would be the Cartier Cal. 272, with quartz movement, timed and standardized.
The Dial, case and movement are triple signed.
CONDITION:
Case/Bracelet – Appear to be in very fine condition. However, the back of the case, the back cover is not shown and many of these watches have their defects located right there.
Dial: Excellent
Movement: Not examined but assumed original to this case, genuine and functional for the price supplied.

PRICING:
The fair market value is NOT to be determined by what people are asking for their watches, nor what you have been offered for your watch. A fair market appraisal must be backed up by prices recently paid by clients for their Chronoscaph 21 watches. I tried to give you an assortment of auction prices and known sales with many quite recent examples, and have to conclude that even in very fine condition the fair market value in today’s marketplace for your particular watch falls in the range of $1200-$1400. {RETAIL pricing of this same watch as found on Chrono24 ranges mostly from $2500-$3500, with most others falling below the $2500 mark}
Thank you for choosing mearto.com for your appraisal.
Best of luck with selling your watch.
My best,
David
