Carved Wood Music Box
This intricate music box is carved in mahogany or another dark wood, with carvings of dancers and cherubs. It plays 11 inch Regina discs on a single comb mechanism. The sound quality is good and the mechanism appears to be in working order. There are some slight scuffs on the outside edges of the case. Along with the music box are dozens of 11" Regina discs in a variety of old songs and hymns. 19.5 inches wide, 12 inches tall, 16 inches deep.

Based on the photographs and description provided, the subject of this appraisal is what appears to be a hybrid/modified music box with the mechanics for what is presumed to be an 11-inch disc Regina Music Box, serial number 10807, circa 1890s. The exterior case appears to be that of a Rococo Symphonion Music Box, style 25C. According to the current owner, the piece was acquired from a private collector in California. Condition of the case is good, with some slight scuffs noted on the case edges.
Early music boxes such as this remain in high demand, but the 11-inch players tend to fetch lower prices on the secondary market than their 15.5-inch models. Based on prices observed at auction of 11-inch models in similar condition with record collections in the range of that included with this piece (dozens according to the current owner) but discounting the modifications to the piece, a fair market value of the piece would be estimated at $500 to $1,000.
