11x8x2.5 in deep. I believe it to be ceramic but may be porcelain, I don’t know how to tell the difference. Don’t know age, see history
My mother gave this to me about 40 years ago. She said it belonged to her great grandmother
Good afternoon, Cathy,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It's a bit hard to tell for sure - the PG mark is relatively plain and could be from one of a few potteries. For this to have belonged to your great great grandmother, it would have to have been made in the late 19th century and this is more consistent with ceramic serving ware made in the US and Europe in the early 20th century. Family stories often get conflated; the item itself tells me more about it and it is stoneware not porcelain.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage stoneware ceramic oval vegetable dish
American or European, first half 20th Century
Plain white exterior, interior with blue decoration of birds and foliage, with a spiral rim; the underside stamped 'PG'.
11 inches long by 8 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches deep
CONDITION: appears to be in very good condition commensurate to age, with no evidence of chipping or losses.
PROVENANCE: descended in the client's family
$50-75*
