I was given this as a gift a few years ago... but it's not really my style. Was considering selling it, but I'm not certain of authenticity as didn't purchase. The gift was given by someone with several Chanel handbags, but I'm just looking to verify if it's genuine.
Given as a gift.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a lovely handbag, however, after examining the photographs provided, Mearto specialists have concluded that the hanbag is a counterfeit Chanel handbag.
There are several incorrect essential elements detailed below that allowed specialists to establish this opinion.
On the exterior of the bag, the interlocking C's are sewn with the wrong kind of sticthes. The metal on the handbag is not up to the Chanel standard of gold metalwork. The numbertag on the bag has the wrong font compared to what Chanel usually uses to write the identification number. And the leather appears to be of a lower quality compared to the caviar calfskin leather that Chanel uses.
Auction houses that consign luxury items like Chaenl handbags will only accept bags of the highest quality/condition, that can be fully authenticated through a physical examination, and by establishing a clear ownership or provenance chain. Therefore, there is no viable auction (secondary) market for counterfeit bags like the subject work.
The sentimental value it represents to you will be much higher than the market value. As it is a fake Chanel handbag we do not appraise it with a value.
I am very sorry for the unfortunate news.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
