Inherited from a family member who states it was from a ship during Pearl Harbor, whole family was navy and army members. Not sure how true the story is. The family members father was a survivor of Pearl Harbor
Hi Blaine,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Chelsea made thousands of these clocks so they are not particularly rare.
Items linked to Pearl Harbor - one of the most tragic days in the history of the US - are always sought after by collectors and can bring a large premium. If the story that this was from a Pearl Harbor ship can be corroborated with documentation (photos of it on the ship, signed affidavits or newspaper stories of its ownership) it would have a value of several hundred dollars. Without that, and in its current working condition this clock is worth $100-150 (if it does not work, it's worth half that: $50-75).
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage World War II Ship's Radio Room Clock
made by Chelsea
With a painted steel face in a black Bakelite case; this might have been fitted into a wall mount with a hinged glass door/cover.
About 7-8 inches diameter
CONDITION: Surface abrasions and some abrasions to the face. Value assumes this is in working condition.
PROVENANCE: Inherited; by repute but not documented to have survived Pearl Harbor.
$ 100-150*
