This was my grandmother’s doll. In pretty good shape. China head. Not sure what the material is for the body and legs. Articulated joints. Hair isn’t rooted - more like a glued on wig. Missing one finger. Eyes open and close. Stamp on the back of the head says FY Nippon.
Head to toe 23” Shoulder to shoulder 9”
Hi Cynthia,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The body and limbs of this doll are made of what is now referred to as "composition;" it's a hard material sort of like papier mache that usually has a sort of glossy finish. It doesn't wear nearly as well as porcelain and its not uncommon after 100+ years to show signs of wear (chips, losses to the surface, etc) particularly if the doll has been played with.
Unfortunately, the market for FY Nippon dolls recently has been quite soft - most bring less than $100 when sold at auction and this is likely a case where it's sentimental value to you and your family is worth more than that...but I didn't want to mislead you with unrealistic ideas of its value should you be facing decisions as to sell or not.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An antique FY Nippon Bisque Porcelain and Composition Doll
