Have a set of China that I would like to get appraised. The signature on it is imperial king. There are dinner plates, salad plates, dessert plates, cups and saucers.
Hi Lori,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Bohemia was one of Europe’s major centers for high-quality porcelain and glass. Porcelain production in Bohemia began in the 1790s, inspired by nearby Meissen (Germany) and Vienna. After 1918, when Czechoslovakia was founded, many porcelain factories began marking their wares “Made in Czechoslovakia.” These marks are typically found on pieces dating from 1918–1939 (interwar period) or 1945–1993 (post–World War II socialist period); the typed mark for the pattern name "Imperial Ming" is indicative of the later period.
Vintage china such as this - both by this maker and others - are in pretty plentiful supply as it was heavily collected in the 20th Century but most people don't want to inherit it and when it sells at auction, it rarely brings more than a few dollars A PIECE. I would be surprised if this exceeded an auction estimate of $100-150.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage 42-piece Fine Bohemian China parcel gilt part dinner service
made in Czechoslovakia, mid 20th Century
In the "Imperial Ming" pattern, comprising:
8 luncheon plates
8 soup bowls
7 dessert/fruit bowls
9 tea cups with 9 saucers
1 cream pitcher
1 sugar bowl
1 large serving bowl
CONDITION: Handle of sugar bowl broken but remains with the service
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$ 100-150 for the set*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
