Chinese God of Longevity Statue Made of Ivory, 26 inch height, 10 lbs. weight
Private seller
This is a tall, hand sculpted interlocking pieced Chinese polychromed ivory statue of one of the Immortals, the God of Longevity. This likely dates to the 19th century. Although technically the age allows the piece to be legal in United States, a vast majority of auction houses have chosen to no longer handle any ivory products because of the current black market and slaughter of elephants. This does impact perceived values of carved ivory and the potential public buyer pool has lessened significantly as well. The estimate is based on past auction sales when selling ivory was still prevalent at major auction houses.
