Thank you for your appraisal on my antique Chinese cabinet.
Some if the armored figures on the painted scenes appear to be female, based on their hairstyle, facial features, and posture. This caught my attention because such depictions are relatively rare in Chinese lacquer furniture, where narrative scenes typically focus on male generals, warriors, or scholars.
I wanted to share this observation, as it might suggest a reference to legendary or folkloric heroines (such as Hua Mulan or similar figures), or possibly a custom artistic choice with symbolic significance.
If relevant, I would greatly appreciate your opinion on whether this detail could further enhance the historical or artistic interest of the piece. I’m happy to provide additional close-up photos of the panels in question if that would help.
Thank you again for your time and expertise.
