A Chinese carved and ebonized hardwood loveseat
possibly made for the export market, late 19th Century
The rectangular back with two panels with deep relief-carved phoenix or ho-ho birds, scrolling arms with shaped and carved stylize wave supports, the rectangular seat with notched(?) front edge and outset turret corners over a pierced front rail, raised on boldly carved short legs terminating in paw feet. With a dark ebonizing stain overall.
back 40 inches high overall; length 56 inches; depth 24 inches
CONDITION: appears to be in generally good condition with some minor splits and separations commensurate with age and use.
