What does this mean?

This is vintage late 1940s costume jewelry, though unmarked, it is likely American made. The piece is made with a slide mechanism similar to a bolero neck piece. This is pot metal or gold tones steel. It has paste-down rhinestones, faux pearl and a plastic molded center 'gem'. The chain is complex in design and the molded ends pieces and central pendant are fully molded on the backside (not hollow). The estimate is based on actual past auction sale records of comparables and accounts for the one missing mounted faux pearl.
