Purchased in a small estate sell on a farm outside of Richmond, VA. Bayonet's overall length is 17 and 3/4 inches long. The blade itself is 14 and 3/4 inches. Width of the blade at the base is 3/4 inch. It is of course metal and leather.
All unknown. However, it was with other Civil War items at the small estate sale so I assume it is from the era.
Dear Patrick,
Thank you for your patience.
The presented object appears to be a Civil War period bayonet with scabbard probably for the Springfield 1851 Cadet Rifle.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 70 to 150 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hello Georg, thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately I do not see any markings on it or they are just no longer legible. I even tried looking at it with a bright light. I have been told that it may be a 1851 Cadet Bayonet if that helps any. Thanks!
