Clay figure of an old man. Roughly 4 inches tall
Inherited from my grandmother, not sure where or when she acquired
Dear Ruth,
What you have here is a mud man in Sancai color scheme made in China mid 20th century. Sancai means three colors although in later times they sometimes used four colors.

This is a nice article about the mud man.
Because your statue is not an antique yet price will be a little disappointing perhaps.
My estimation is based on what I believe the statue would make in an auction or sale room.
If it is older it surely will make a little more. Also the more details are in the statue and the dimensions are bigger it will make a better price. The color blue is more softer on the older one's. Those have also more wear to the feet. It could be 1930 / 1940 also in stead of 1950.

Thanks for the appraisal but I do have a question on this one. Per the article you attached it appears to have the stamp that would indicate it was made between 1890-1919. Does that affect the value?
