What does this mean?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

I've found several examples of this model of base marked "CHICAGO MOSAIC", for the Chicago Mosaic Lamp Company (often seen as Chicago Mosaic, Mosaic Shade Co., or Chicago Mosaic Lamp Co.), which was an early 20th-century American maker of leaded glass lamps based in Chicago, Illinois. Operating roughly in the 1900s–1910s, it produced Art Nouveau and floral Tiffany-style stained glass lamps and shades, often featuring native flora like apple blossoms. These lamps typically combine richly textured leaded glass with substantial metal bases.

Whether by Tiffany or other maker, geometric shades tend to bring slightly less in value than ones in more intricate patterns, presumably because they are considered less technically complex.

Based on what comparable examples have sold for at auction, I would expect this to do well with an estimate of $400 and $600.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An antique Chicago Mosaic gilt metal table lamp
with geometric shade
Of circular section, the flaring shade with pointed ribbons into colorful triangular web, on a cast gilt metal base with floral and bird elements, on three paw feet. Marked underside "DE221"
27 inches tall; greatest diameter of shade: 15 inches
CONDITION: This appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: Acquired at a flea market
$ 400-600*
