20 x 22, woman on the left side
Part of a convolute purchased 2000
The appraised work appears to be a mixed media collage on paper, possibly executed by British artist Richard Hamilton (1922-2011). The work includes a series of organic colored forms that look to be torn paper with a stylized female figure visible on the left side of the composition. Hamilton is perhaps most well known for creating the earliest works that would later become known as Pop Art. He typically worked with collage, creating assembled compositions with imagery sourced from cultural ephemera including newspapers, magazines and advertisements. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's size, composition, medium and condition (based on images provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
