What does this mean?

Hi Vanessa,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is a very nice salver; the presentation inscription will mean more to you and your family than it will to an unassociated market but I've priced it to what it would likely sell for at auction.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An antique Barker Brothers sterling silver footed salver
Bearing the date marks for Birmingham, England, 1913-1914
With molded serpentine edge with small feet to the underside, later engraved to the front "PRESENTED TO SKI BY THE OFFICERS & B.N.COs OF THE BN, February 1942, THE KINGS AFRICAN RIFLES, 4TH (UGANDA) BN." Marked to the reverse
10 inches by 10 inches
CONDITION: appears to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: presented to client's grandfather, Lt Col William Vicrose Digby Dickinson.
Upon his death my Aunt in Australia looked after it until it was given to the client's father who was the only son. His name was Jeremy Vicrose Digby Dickinson.
Upon Jeremy's death in 2012 it was given to the client.
$600-900*
