The Complete set of 8 books of the "Works of the Rt. Hon. LORD BYRON. In eight volumes." published in 1825 in New York by WM Borradaile "at his wholesale bookstore" 114 Fulton Street. This is a presumed first edition given Lord Byron died in 1824. The binding and pages are intact for 7 of the books. Volume VIII is missing the opening page with a picture and the binding is a little bit loose at the top. As you might expect for 200 year old books, they are somewhat worn and have foxing. The brown covers are scratched. The books measure 3" x 5.5".
Passed down from my family. My 3rd great-grandmother's sister, Zemira Hall (1808-1896) bought/acquired the complete set new, supposedly between 1825-1830. Her name is written on the cover pages of most of the books.
Dear Stephen,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This is the first American edition of eight volumes in original paper boards. Each volume is approximately 3" x 5.5". Fair condition.
The estimation highlighted in red above is based on comparables offered and sold at auction in the last five years. The condition (based on photographs and comments provided) was taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Best regards,
Karine
