This is an oil on canvas board painting measuring approximately 14 x 18 inches.
I purchased this item some years ago and unfortunately I don't recall from whom or when. I was attracted to it due to the cubist manner in which it was executed. For what it's worth, there is a pencil drawing of Europe on the reverse with a couple of names, the word "sabotage ", and the date of February 2, 1943.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a portrait in a picassoesc braqueish grisish manner, oil on artist board, applied with brush and palette knife, with scratching out, signed Howard Mills (?) or similar. The inscriptions and date might relate to the painting or they are just coincidental. This might be the work of an art student, possibly inspired or copied after another work by a better known artist. Unfortunately the artist who painted this interesting portrait is not listed.
