Thanks, Mina, for your comment, which I've attached to this appraisal; these cornets usually say what the model is and I can't find any list of serial numbers online to more accurately date this.
You are welcome to leave additional comments in one of these comment boxes, which I'll see immediately.
Thanks,
Delia
Hi Mina,
Thank you for your email and what appears to be a good comparable example. I should clarify that the price on that link is a retail price whereas the values Mearto assigns are fair-market, for auction purposes, are based on recent auction sales of comparable examples, and are anywhere from 2-3 times LESS than retail prices. Accordingly, I would expect the Kanstul Bb cornet on that website to have a fair-market value of $550-850, which is just a little less than the value I appraised yours at.
While Mearto doesn't create insurance appraisals *per se*, we have a feature where an insurance value is calculated based on the standard industry multiplier (to have an insurance value of $1,650, the fair market value would be $725-925).
For us to do that, this would have to be listed as "not for sale;" I think you have to make that change on your end.
If that's something you'd like me to do, please let me know.
Delia
Hi Mina,
Responding to your last email: Thank you so much for this information! Also, does the fact that the company no longer makes instruments affect the value? TO BE HONEST, NOT REALLY. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER COMPARABLY GOOD MAKERS STILL IN BUSINESS.
And I apologize for my ignorance, but if I were to list this for auction or consignment, should I list the fair market market value?
IF YOU ARE GOING TO SELL IT, I WOULD ASK THE $1,000 ASKING PRICE. YOU WILL PROBABLY GET LOWER OFFERS - NONE OF WHICH YOU ARE OBLIGATED TO ACCEPT. IF YOU START HIGH AND EVENTUALLY HAVE TO SETTLE FOR A PRICE WITHIN THE FAIR MARKET RANGE YOU WILL STILL BE GETTING A REASONABLE PRICE FOR THE CORNET.
I hope I’ve answered your questions but if not please let me know.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Mina Harriman's comment:
Hello I believe this is a Bb… is there anyway I can tell without knowing for sure? Please let me know if there are markings to look for.
And no, it comes in a protective travel case.
