I purchased this painting from a gallery in Old Lyme, CT about 20 to 25 years ago. Can’t remember what I paid, maybe around $500. It is signed D. Crosby Brown 1977. Perfect condition, beautiful rendering of cows by a stream with mountains in the background. Last picture is of a card tucked into a plastic sleeve on the back.
Frame is 29” wide, 23” high. Painting within frame is 23” wide, 17” high
Dear Jaime Shane,
Thank you for the appraisal submission. The work is an oil painting on canvas by Donal Crosby Brown (American, 20th/21st century). The work is a pastoral landscape with grazing cows resting by the water. It is signed and dated "D. Crosby Brown 1997" to the lower right corner. The verso includes an artist card. From the images provided, the work appears to be in Good condition with no significant issues to note. It measures 29 x 23 inches framed with a sight of 23 x 17 inches.
Donald Crosby Brown is a Maine-based contemporary artist of landscapes. He does not have an extensive secondary market record, but of the few sales recorded the hammer prices remain fairly consistent. These sales are nearly 10 years past however, most likely reducing the value of the paintings today. Considering these records, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $500 and $1,000.
Thank you again for your submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
