Approximately 55.5” in length. Metal is stamped with a crown and the letters VR below it. There is another stamp that has a date of 1860 and below that it says TOWER. There appears to be some kind of stamp in the metal on the barrel of the gun but I am unsure of what it is, or says, exactly.
This rifle was gifted to my father by a close family friend. This friend was working in the Middle East and purchased it there. We know nothing else about it’s origins.
Dear Kasey,
Thank you for your request. The apprised object is Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle manufactured by Tower. All British weapons have hallmarks and guarantee stamps. the VR under the crown means that this rifle was made under the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901), it is dated 1860 and produced by Tower. Tower was a private Birmingham, England arms facility. The stock was probably made out of walnut wood.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 600 to 1200 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
