Dear Pedro Cardoso,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work appears to be an acrylic painting on butterfly-shaped paper. It measures 65 x 55cm, and is attributed to the verso, and signed to the left wing. The following appraisal report will be on a conditional basis, assuming that the work is authentic. This painting by Damien Hirst (British, born 1965) was completed in 2009 in celebration of the opening of the artist's exhibition at Pinchuk Art Centre. From the images provided, it appears to be in good condition with minor edge wear and a ring stain to the right wing.
Damien Hirst is a prominent contemporary artist associated with the Young British Artists. His work ranges from sculptures to large scale installations to paintings and prints with a significant and steady auction history. Due to the extent of Hirst's auction history, the Fair Market Value of this specific work is estimated on the basis of medium, its state as a multiple, and placement within the artist's oeuvre. Hirst's auction record is held by one of his formaldehyde sculptures at the price of £10.3 million in 2018. In comparison, his spin paintings sell below $10,000 on average. There have been numerous spin paintings on the market within the past year, and their frequency likely affect sales value. With these trends in mind, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $2000 and $5000, or between € 1800 and € 4600.
